DOUGLAS CONVERSE

Hanford, California

Plebe year Douglas was one of the high scorers at Executive Track, but what the heck, it's only one year out of four. That probably explains why he was a good runner and helped the Eager Beavers clean up in cross country and steeple chase. If you wanted to know anything about Naval Aviation, he had the dope. One of the few Beavers who didn't use a white tipped cane, Doug will be a prime candidate for carrier duty. Of course, like many other natives of the Golden State, he would like to return to the West, so if offered a chance at Guided Missile research at Point Mugu, the temptation might prove too much.

Loss

From researcher Kathy Franz:

A flight instructor at NAS Pensacola, he was killed when his T-28 Trojan, a propeller-drive plane, crashed after take-off at Eglin AFB Site 6.

An honor student and member of the rally committee, Douglas graduated in 1948 from Hanford High School. He then attended College of the Sequoias for one year.

He was survived by his father Charles and his aunt Florence Rhein. His mother was Ellen, a newspaper stenographer.

Douglas is buried in California.
