Life & Loss

Unable to find any details about John's life or loss. Register of Alumni gives "LCDR" and date of death but nothing else.

He is not included in the SHIPMATE list of alumni who died (of any cause) during the war years (September 1946 issue).

He was aboard USS Argonne at the beginning of the war (1941 Navy Directory). He is not listed as a qualified Naval Aviator.

It is entirely unclear what is happening in this article, but it appears that John, "a former naval officer," is referenced in divorce proceedings. Note the date of this article is after his recorded date of loss. The date of marriage seems to be 1927. (Another article in 1924 mentions he was visiting his family after graduation; it made no mention of a wife.)

The February 1947 issue of SHIPMATE reports that his class ring had been found in a taxi in Baltimore, Maryland.

In the Register of Commissioned and Warrant Officers of the United States Navy and Marine Corps of 1945, he is listed as "dismissed"… but no date is given. Conspicuously, he is not on the list of deaths. He does not appear in any Registers after this issue.
