Arthur was lost on March 8, 1984 when his T-44A crashed while practicing touch-and-go landings near Corpus Christi, Texas. The instructor and another student were also lost.

They were members of Training Squadron (VT) 31; the article identified Arthur as a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and said he was survived by his parents, who resided in Beach Haven, New Jersey.

Arthur is listed at the Naval Aviation Foundation. He is buried in the Holy Innocents Memorial Gardens and Columbarium in Beach Haven, New Jersey.
