From USNA Virtual Memorial Hall

Ronald Gibson '57

Date of birth: July 31, 1935

Date of death: January 26, 1961

Age: 25

Lucky Bag

From the 1957 Lucky Bag:

Ronald was lost on January 26, 1961 when the C-118 transport aircraft he was copilot of disappeared between the Azores and Newfoundland. The first article also states he was survived by his wife. He was a member of Transport Squadron (VR) 22, based at Norfolk, Virginia.

He has a memory marker in Arlington National Cemetery.

(Note: though most databases, including Aviation Safety Network and this list of bureau numbers have the aircraft as belonging to the Air Force, it seems that it had been returned to the Navy sometime before the crash.)
