He was survived by his mother and father, USMC Colonel William G. Hawthorne, and brother LT(jg) Robert Earle Hawthorne.

William is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Career

William previously served on the battleship USS Idaho. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on June 1, 1942.
