William Becker '75

Date of birth: June 7, 1953

Date of death: February 27, 1979

Age: 25

Lucky Bag

William does not have an entry in the 1975 Lucky Bag. There is a "W. Becker" pictured as a member of 13th Company leadership, but he is not with the other 1/c of 13th Company. (Nor is at least one other person pictured, though several from that page are.)

The Register of Alumni lists him as a graduate.

Loss

From the 1979 cruise book of VA-12 / USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69)

From VA-12:

While attached to VA-12 which was deployed on-board CV-69 Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lt(jg) Becker was lost at sea during night flight operations in the Mediterranean on February 27, 1979 in A-7E BuNo 157578.

No trace of his remains or aircraft were ever located. This loss occurred during the Ike's initial Mediterranean deployment.

Between Feb. 26 - March 4, 1979, the Eisenhower was one of the carriers participating in National Week XXVI/Sardinia 1-79, a multinational exercise "involving over 50 ships and 300 aircraft from various NATO countries."
