ROMAINE T. BOYD
Romaine is currently listed with his classmates in Memorial Hall. However, we have recommended to the Memorial Oversight Committee at the US Naval Academy that he be removed for the reason listed at the bottom of this page; his loss was not due to hostile action or the result of his military duties.
His entry remains below so we do not lose his memory or the knowledge of his life and service.

Loss
Romaine died at the age of 75 and is buried in Alabama. He was a successful lawyer and judge.
The Register of Alumni lists him as a non-graduate, but does not provide a date of death or any other information.
Memorial Hall Error
It's unclear what error might have caused his inclusion in Memorial Hall. He was — for precisely 6 months — a captain of the 1st Alabama Infantry in 1898. This regiment was federalized for two weeks in May, and disbanded by the end of October. "During its term of service, the regiment lost one officer and fifteen enlisted men to disease. Thirty-one men were discharged on disability. In addition, thirty-two enlisted men deserted." There was also a riot.
