From the July 1942 issue of The Battalion (Texas A&M news), via Find A Grave. Ted's brother went on to retire as a Major General.

Ted was lost when USS Pillsbury (DD 227) was sunk by a superior Japanese surface force in a night action on March 2, 1942, 200 miles east of Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean.

From Find A Grave: "Born about 1913, Ted Adair Hilger was the son of John Fredrick Hilger and Emma Dye."

His mother was listed as next of kin.
