Other Information

From Find A Grave:

He entered the school on June 11, 1879 and graduated from the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in 1883.

At the time Toney graduated, naval cadets (as they were then called) took a six-year course.

After completing four years at the Academy, they had to complete two years at sea. Tremlet died on his annual cruise with typhoid fever.

According to the writings of his brother, Luther, and information received from the Academy, Tremlet was a Naval Cadet serving on board the U.S.S. Trenton near Yokahama at the time of his death.

From researcher Kathy Franz:

At graduation exercises in June 1883, Tremlet and classmate Patrick Philbin engaged in individual assaults in fencing. The two also excelled in sword practice.

Tremlet was ordered to the Trenton on September 1, 1883.

His father Elijah was a doctor. In 1898, his brother Luther, a renowned doctor, named his son Charles Tremlet Toney in Bisbee, Arizona. In 1902, his brother Harry named his son Tremlet Clark Toney in St. Louis, Missouri. Tremlet lived to the age of 81 and died in October 1979 in Los Angeles.
