George died at Mildenhall, England from injuries sustained in the accident of an aircraft which he commanded.

The date of the crash was January 30, 1956; he was piloting a B-45. George is buried in Georgia. (Unclear on why his headstone has “III” instead of “Jr.”)

He was survived by his wife, Patricia, and sons, William and Michael. (Information from March 1956 issue of SHIPMATE.)
