From the 1942 Lucky Bag:

WILLIAM NELSON BEALE, JR.

Bill, Negat

One could not lind a more consistent person than Bill Beale. Starting from near-by Baltimore, Bill entered the Academy with a great determination to make good. This determination, accompanied by a friendly nature and a happy outlook, have brought him his share of success. Although a star swimmer and lacrosse man, Bill still has time to give to his short stories and much-loved collection of pipes.

Swimming 4, 3, 2, 1; Lacrosse 4, 3, 2, 1; Log 3, 2, 1; Reef Points 2, 1; Radio Club 4; Reception committee; 1 Stripe.

The Class of 1942 graduated on December 19, 1941, less than two weeks after the United States entered World War II. The class had previously been scheduled to graduate in February 1942.

Loss

William was lost when his F4U-4B Corsair crashed while operating from USS Midway (CV 41). The date given on the site is September 19, 1946; however his burial marker gives 1947 and the site above is often incorrect on dates.

He is buried in the Naval Academy cemetery with his wife. William was survived by her, a daughter and a son.
