Thomas was lost on October 21, 1941 when his aircraft crashed in the Pacific Ocean while attempting to land aboard an aircraft carrier.

A memorial window at the St. John's Church in Butee, Montana honors his service and sacrifice.

Unable to determine which unit he was stationed with. The April 1, 1941 Navy Directory lists him as under instruction at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California.

Thomas was born in late 1909 or early 1910 in England. He immigrated via Ellis Island on 3/1/1910 at the age of 2 months with his parents, who were both born in England as well.
